I am a dedicated reader of Gourmet magazine. Cooking has been a "hobby" of mine since college. I got hooked on the Food Network and became obsessed with Giada DeLaurentis. I would cook for my boyfriend (now husband) and his culinarily-challenged roommates for fun.
I began reading Cooking Light after we got married to find lighter recipes to keep our meals more interesting but I found that there were just too many ingredients in their recipes. After reading an issue or two of Gourmet, I decided I wanted a subscription...and we have had a 2-3 year love affair ever since. The photography in this magazine is beautiful and makes you want to devour each page. The gastromically-inspired trips which describe every meal as a once-in-a-lifetime experience just draw me in. One time there was an article about a visit to Mexico City and some neighboring areas and it transported me back to my study abroad trip in 2003. I remembered all the smells and delicious bites that simply can't be recreated at home. The recipes are fairly simple as well. Fewer ingredients but of higher quality. That's why my mouth dropped open this morning when I heard that Conde Nast was shutting down Gourmet magazine (as well as some others, like Modern bride). I can't believe it. Tell me it isn't true.
